Fishing has been pretty doggone good this summer. Lots of schoolie cats in the lower lake, with a nice one every now and then. Cats mostly on herring in 15 to 25 feet of water. Caught some nice bass in the Cooper River yesterday, somehow my daughter managed to catch the bigger ones, however. Caught them on a watermelon and pink floating worm.

The Congaree River comes out of Columbia, SC before it flows into Santee Cooper. Beautiful river, beautiful scenery. This morning I fished with The Outlaws and Terry Madewell. Whitey Outlaw is a professional crappie fisherman www.whiteyoutlaw.com and Terry is a professional outdoor writer from way back. Google Terry Madewell, you'll see what I'm talking about. If it concerns the outdoors, Terry has written about it.
Fished the lower reaches of the Sparklebery Swamp today with a couple of great guys. My old friend Jay Gregg - former host of Carolina Outdoors TV and a true Santee Cooper Legend - Whitey Outlaw.
Sparkleberry is at the top of Lake Marion, and is formed by the Congaree and Wateree Rivers. You talk about beautiful; you've got to see it to believe it! This is God's Creation at its best. A myriad of Cypress and Tupelo Gum, you can get lost in this place really easily. Not to worry though when you have guides like Whitey and his son Matthew. Sparkleberry is thier backyard.
Hello again from the Santee Cooper Sportsman TV!
This spring on the Santee Cooper Lakes has been a spring like no other. The fish are biting, but you have to catch them between cold fronts. This past winter was really cold, it just didn't seem like it was ever going to warm up! Oh well, it has been warm the last week or so, and the fishing is really starting to be more consistent.
Hard to patern the big cats today. Was fishing specifically for a trophy, did manage to catch a few nice ones. Some more great guys from West Virginia: Hank and Johnathan.
Started out early by drifting off a steep shallow ledge, caught a couple of blues in 14 feet of water; one of which was 35pounds. caught the rest of the fish in various depths, fish were scattered out everywhere today. Still catching them on Gizzard Shad, drifting mostly on the SE side of the lower lake.
